JI considers putting Islamabad protest on hold after PM’s call

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has spoken to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on telephone, urging him to postpone the party’s planned sit-in in Islamabad.

During the call, Shehbaz said the government is providing relief on petroleum products to economically vulnerable and middle-income segments of society amid the prevailing difficult circumstances. He maintained that government would continue taking measures to provide people with as much relief as possible.

JI chief responded positively to prime minister’s proposal and said the party is weighing the decision to postpone the sit-in.

The two sides also agreed to hold a meeting following the prime minister’s return from his trip and carry on discussions on the matter.
