— October 1, 2024
ISLAMABAD (AIA) In a significant development for mathematics enthusiasts, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) have announced the launch of Pakistan’s first national-level “Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad (PMO).” According to FBISE, the competition, set to take place in mid-December, aims to promote mathematical excellence among high school students nationwide.
The PMO is open to students enrolled in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or O-Level and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or A-Level programmes, as well as those with equivalent qualifications from various educational streams across Pakistan. The Olympiad will offer participants the opportunity to demonstrate their mathematical skills on a national stage.
The competition offers prestigious rewards, including cash prizes, medals, laptops, and scholarships to top universities in Pakistan, ensuring it attracts the brightest young mathematical minds.
These incentives are designed to motivate students to excel in mathematics and foster a new generation of problem solvers and critical thinkers. The registration fee for the competition is PKR 1,000 per participant. Interested students can register, access the syllabus, and view model question papers on the official FBISE website: www.fbise.edu.pk/pmo.php.
In partnership with FBISE, LUMS has developed a comprehensive syllabus specifically for the PMO. A model question paper has also been created to help students prepare and understand the competition’s format and difficulty level. This inclusive approach ensures students from diverse educational backgrounds can compete and showcase their mathematical talents.
