200 Sri Lankan Students Get Scholarships to Study in Pakistan

COLOMBO (AIA) The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has awarded 200 fully and partially funded scholarships to Sri Lankan students as part of the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarship Programme. These scholarships mark the 6th batch under the programme, with approximately 500 additional Sri Lankan students already studying in Pakistan for undergraduate, MS, and PhD degrees at leading universities.
To celebrate the newly selected students, HEC held a ceremony in collaboration with the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo. General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, served as the chief guest, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Maj. Gen. (R) Faheem Ul Aziz, also attended, according to a press release.
Jehanzeb Khan, Project Director of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme, represented the Chairman of HEC at the event. He congratulated the scholarship recipients and highlighted the programme’s role in strengthening educational and economic ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Aziz noted that these scholarships reflect the deep brotherly bond between the two nations. He encouraged the students to make the most of this opportunity, saying, “As you pursue your studies, remember that you are ambassadors of your country and culture. Engage with your peers, share your experiences, and be a bridge between our two nations. The knowledge and understanding you gain will be invaluable as we work together to address the challenges of our changing world.”
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including business leaders, academics, government officials, and the families of the scholarship recipients.
