Advocating for Children’s Rights: World Children’s Day Marked in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Like many countries worldwide, Pakistan observed World Children’s Day on Wednesday, joining the global initiative to promote and protect children’s rights. The 2024 theme, “For every child, every right,” underscores the commitment to ensuring every child has access to their fundamental rights and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children.
The day serves as a call to action for governments, communities, and individuals to uphold the rights outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted on November 20, 1989. These rights include access to education, healthcare, and protection from harm.
First established by the United Nations in 1954, World Children’s Day fosters international cooperation to address challenges faced by children and to celebrate progress in improving their lives. It aims to inspire advocacy, dialogue, and tangible actions to create a better future for children.
Mothers, fathers, educators, healthcare professionals, policymakers, community leaders, corporate leaders, media professionals, and children themselves are urged to contribute to making the day meaningful by championing children’s rights in their societies and communities.
World Children’s Day also provides a platform to reflect on achievements in advancing child welfare globally while highlighting areas requiring further attention. It is a reminder that ensuring children’s rights is a shared responsibility that demands collective effort.
