Pakistan to Honour Disability Leadership on International Day

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan will join the global community in observing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on Tuesday. The theme for 2024 is “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
This year’s theme highlights the leadership role of persons with disabilities, epitomised by the global disability rights movement’s slogan, “Nothing About Us Without Us.” The slogan underscores the importance of participation, representation, and inclusion, calling for persons with disabilities to actively shape their own lives and contribute to a sustainable future.
Advancing the agency and leadership of persons with disabilities remains a priority in the global disability agenda. Over the past decades, individuals with disabilities and their organisations (OPDs) have championed transformative changes within their communities. These efforts include advocating for their rights, well-being, and inclusive development, such as ensuring universal access to essential services.
The observance of IDPD 2024 coincides with pivotal global developments, including the Summit of the Future and the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development. These summits aim to provide a roadmap toward disability-inclusive and sustainable peace and development. This year’s theme underscores the synergy between these efforts, leveraging the leadership of persons with disabilities to achieve a more inclusive and equitable world.
