DP World Delegation Visits Pakistan to Finalise Freight Corridor Project

ISLAMABAD (AIA) A high-level delegation from DP World, led by Group CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, visited Pakistan via the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) platform to finalise the commercial aspects of the Dedicated Freight Corridor project from Karachi Port to Pipri.
The delegation engaged in comprehensive consultations with stakeholders regarding the Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Pipri. Representatives from DP World, Pakistan Railways, and the National Logistics Cell (NLC) participated in discussions under SIFC’s auspices, according to an official press release.
During a ceremony at SIFC, a mutually agreed-upon term sheet was signed between DP World and the relevant parties to implement the project. Pakistan Railways Secretary Syed Mazhar Ali Shah signed on behalf of Pakistan, alongside senior officials from the NLC, SIFC, and other key ministries.
The project aims to alleviate freight vehicle congestion in Karachi by enhancing the country’s railway infrastructure, promising efficient and cost-effective freight services. It is a key step towards realising Pakistan’s multi-modal logistics framework, backed by a multi-million-dollar investment to position the nation as a regional hub for transshipment and transit trade.
The implementation of this project follows the framework agreement signed between Pakistan and DP World in January 2024. Its timely progress reflects the collaborative efforts of SIFC and key stakeholders.
“This initiative heralds the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership with DP World to unlock Pakistan’s immense potential for regional trade and connectivity,” the statement added, highlighting the importance of improved port and railway infrastructure in advancing the nation’s trade ambitions.
