NDMA Launches Documentary Series on Climate Change, Disaster Preparedness

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has launched a documentary series to raise awareness about climate change, hazard profiles, and area-specific vulnerabilities.
This initiative is part of NDMA’s risk communication strategy, aimed at improving public understanding and fostering a culture of preparedness within communities.
Pakistan ranks fifth among the most climate-vulnerable countries globally and continues to face escalating climate-related challenges. Recognised as one of the greatest security threats to humanity, climate change acts as a risk multiplier, intensifying hazards with severe consequences.
One of the videos in the series explores retrofitting—the process of upgrading existing buildings and infrastructure to enhance safety, resilience, and efficiency. Whether for earthquake resistance, flood protection, energy efficiency, or structural reinforcement, retrofitting is a key component of disaster risk reduction and sustainable development.
The documentary highlights the construction and retrofitting of a girls’ school in Nomal Valley, undertaken by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH). It underscores the transformative power of collective action, showcasing how retrofitting efforts, supported by global and local partnerships, can strengthen infrastructure, protect communities, and promote a safer, more resilient future.
NDMA encourages the public to watch the documentary to better understand Pakistan’s disaster preparedness efforts. Together, we can build a resilient and prepared nation.
