ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Performance Management System, aimed at ensuring greater transparency and enhancing service delivery across the institution.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister said FBR officers with outstanding performance will receive public recognition, as well as promotions and financial incentives, while underperforming officials will face accountability and penalties.
Calling the FBR Delivery Unit a valuable asset, the prime minister expressed hope that it would align the country’s tax system with modern requirements and help boost national revenue generation. He noted that the ongoing digitalisation of the FBR is a significant step towards improving the organisation’s transparency and effectiveness.
Sharif highlighted a 27 per cent increase in revenue receipts compared to the previous year, calling it a quantum leap. He underscored the urgent need to expedite the disposal of tax-related cases—worth billions of rupees—currently pending across various platforms, including the internal revenue system, customs, and sales tax forums. He reiterated that increasing revenue is essential for reducing dependence on loans.
He also stressed the importance of enhancing the Track and Trace System and said modern technology is being deployed across departments, including Customs, to improve service delivery.
During the event, the prime minister received a detailed briefing on PRAL, digital invoicing, and the new performance management framework. It was noted that a data-driven decision-making system is being introduced within FBR, integrating information on payments and asset purchases from NADRA, banks, and other sources.
Officials added that efforts are under way to implement an automated system in line with international standards to expand the tax base. The entire value chain is being digitise
