CM Murad vows to fully explore potential of mining sector
— August 10, 2026KARACHI (AIA) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah says electricity generation capacity from Thar Coal will be increased from the current 2,640 megawatts to 3,000 megawatts in the coming days.
Addressing Mining Technical Conference 2026 held under the auspices of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) in Karachi today, he said over 15 million tons of coal is being produced annually from Thar blocks. He said the use of local coal is saving the country over 1.5 billion dollars in foreign exchange annually.
Murad Ali Shah expressed his government’s commitment to fully explore the potential of mining sector.
