Digital transformation key to Pakistan’s sustainable growth: Aurangzeb

NEW YORK (AIA) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said digital transformation will be central to Pakistan’s shift from economic stabilisation towards sustained growth. He was speaking at the Digital Cooperation Organization’s High-Level Ministerial Dialogue, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today.

Aurangzeb highlighted progress in digital public infrastructure and cashless payments, while stressing that better connectivity must go hand in hand with upskilling and reskilling. He said this would help freelancers and other digital workers move into higher-value services.

Referring to the growing use of virtual assets, the finance minister outlined Pakistan’s efforts to develop legislation, regulatory oversight and licensing frameworks. He also pointed to applications beyond cryptocurrency, including faster and more affordable remittances and the possible tokenisation of public debt and real estate.

Aurangzeb called for greater cooperation among DCO member states to exchange successful approaches and attract investment into the digital economy.
