Huawei, Govt to Train 300,000 Pakistani Youth in Digital Skills

ISLAMABAD (AIA) In a significant move toward Pakistan’s digital transformation, Huawei Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) to train students from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). This marks the first phase of Huawei’s ambitious plan to equip 300,000 Pakistani youth with advanced ICT skills.
The MoU signing ceremony was chaired by Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The agreement was signed by Nadeem Mahboob, Secretary of MoFEPT, and Ahmad Aziz, Manager Development at Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd. Both parties exchanged documents during the formal event.
The collaboration is designed to enhance technical expertise among Pakistani students, creating a skilled workforce aligned with the country’s digital future. Mahboob said the partnership would accelerate IT exports and generate employment, while Aziz reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to bridging the digital skills gap through globally recognised certifications.
The MoU will result in 300,000 Pakistani youth receiving training in IT and emerging technologies by the end of the year. Of these, 60,000 trainees will be offered high-tech instruction in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and big data. The remaining 240,000 will undergo training in basic IT skills.
15 Pakistani universities have already integrated Huawei’s AI, cloud, and cybersecurity courses, training more than 20,000 students to date.
This initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and will deliver ICT training to students under the FDE in Islamabad, with further outreach to Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). A total of 146,367 students across these regions will be trained using more than 1,300 IT labs.
