Literary Circles Remember Parveen Shakir on 30th Death Anniversary

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The 30th death anniversary of Parveen Shakir, one of Pakistan’s most beloved Urdu poets, was observed yesterday with heartfelt tributes. Director General of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), Sultan Nasir, laid a floral wreath at her grave, joined by members of literary and academic circles, representatives from the Parveen Shakir Trust, and private literary organisations.
Sultan Nasir praised Shakir’s unparalleled contribution to Urdu poetry, particularly her bold exploration of human emotions and feminine experiences. “Her legacy is immortalised in the Academy’s Hall of Fame,” he said. Shakir’s acclaimed poetry collections, including Khushboo, Sad-Barg, and Khud Kalami, remain iconic works in Urdu literature.
Parveen Shakir, born on November 24, 1952, tragically lost her life in a car accident on December 26, 1994. Her complete works were later compiled and published under the title Mah-e-Tamam.
The Pakistan Academy of Letters’ tribute is a reflection of Shakir’s lasting impact on Urdu literature and her role in inspiring future generations of poets and writers.
