Pakistan, Belarus to Deepen Ties Across Trade, Defence, and Industry

MINSK (AIA) Pakistan and Belarus on Friday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including agriculture, food security, industry, trade, and defence.
The agreement came during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk. Both leaders also agreed on a plan to send 150,000 skilled Pakistani workers to Belarus to contribute to the country’s nation-building efforts. A comprehensive strategy in this regard will be formulated soon.
The two sides agreed to collaborate on the joint manufacturing of agricultural machinery and to enhance cooperation in the production of electric buses and ensuring food security.
In addition, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence ties and boosting business-to-business cooperation.
Discussions also covered trade, investment, and regional matters. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the recent progress in all aspects of bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that significant advancements had been made following the eighth meeting of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission held last year and the subsequent visit of Pakistan’s inter-ministerial delegation to Belarus.
In a social media post on X, the prime minister wrote, “We reviewed the entire spectrum of our bilateral cooperation, including political, trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts.”
He added, “Highlights of our talks included the agreement to send over 150,000 highly skilled Pakistani workers to contribute to nation-building efforts in Belarus; enhanced cooperation in agriculture and food security; and potential joint ventures in the manufacturing of electric buses and agricultural machinery—steps that will help transform our enduring bond of friendship into a lasting partnership.”
