Pakistani And Chinese Universities Come Together to Build Joint Lab to Tackle Carbon Emissions
— June 28, 2024
BEIJING (AIA) China Jiliang University and Quaid-i-Azam University have signed an agreement to establish a joint laboratory for carbon-neutral environmental remediation technologies.
In 2021, the Chinese government promised to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Similarly, Pakistan aims for a cumulative ambitious conditional target of a 50% reduction in its projected emissions by 2030, according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The new laboratory will focus on developing low-carbon or carbon-negative pollution control and environmental remediation materials and technologies. This will help achieve carbon neutrality in the field of environmental governance and remediation.
The collaboration between the College of Energy, Environment, and Safety Engineering, the College of Carbon Metrology, and Quaid-i-Azam University’s Department of Environmental Science has a long-term history.
In recent years, they have made significant progress in the application of biochar, a non-negative remediation material, helping with soil remediation and wastewater treatment through bilateral exchanges and academic cooperation.
