PBS Launches Modernized Labour Force Survey Aligned with Global Standards

ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released the Labour Force Survey 2024-25, aligning the country’s labour data collection with the latest international standards.
This survey marks a major shift, adopting the 19th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) guidelines, which redefine employment parameters by excluding own-use production from the employed population.
Speaking at the launch event, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal termed the release a vital step toward evidence-based policymaking. He noted that the updated survey offers more accurate labour market insights for policymakers, researchers, and development partners.
PBS has also released key indicators under both the old (13th ICLS) and new (19th ICLS) methodologies to ensure transparency and facilitate comparability across time.
