Punjab Eases Smog Restrictions Amid Improving Air Quality

LAHORE (AIA) The Punjab government further eased restrictions on Monday as smog levels in the province showed signs of improvement.Accord being to a notification issued by Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of Environment, construction activities have been permitted in four districts, including Lahore. Brick kilns using zigzag technology have also been allowed to operate, while government and private offices can resume working with full staff capacity. The updated regulations apply to Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, and Faisalabad. Heavy traffic will now be allowed entry into these districts from Monday to Thursday but will remain restricted from Friday to Sunday. However, the closure of shops, markets, and shopping malls by 8 p.m. remains in effect across all four districts. Restaurants can continue indoor and outdoor dining until 10 p.m., but barbecue operations must install hood systems to comply with environmental standards. This decision reflects the government’s strategy to balance economic activity with ongoing environmental precautions, as officials closely monitor the situation to ensure public safety.
