ICCI Chief Urges National Dialogue to Rescue Country’s Economy

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), has called for a national dialogue to address Pakistan’s mounting economic challenges. Emphasising the importance of political stability as the cornerstone of economic progress, Qureshi urged all parties to put aside differences and engage in constructive discussions to develop comprehensive, long-term economic policies.
In a statement issued Friday, Qureshi highlighted the urgent need for political harmony to counter the country’s financial woes, which include industrial closures, rising power tariffs, excessive taxation, and soaring unemployment. He warned that worsening political polarisation exacerbates these problems, deterring investment and stifling economic growth.
“The time for divisive politics is over,” Qureshi said. “The nation demands leadership that transcends political rivalries, prioritises the public good, and sets a foundation for enduring economic resilience and growth.”
Qureshi also painted a bleak picture of Pakistan’s current state, citing deteriorating law and order, widespread corruption, nepotism, and political volatility as significant barriers to attracting foreign direct investment. He stressed that these issues have left industries and businesses struggling to survive, further undermining Pakistan’s economic potential.
He called for robust governance, institutional integrity, and policy continuity to navigate the country out of its economic crisis. Political leaders, he said, must prioritise the nation’s stability over partisan interests, ensuring sustainable development, poverty reduction, and improved livelihoods for citizens.
This call for unity comes at a critical time as Pakistan grapples with unprecedented challenges that demand a unified vision and decisive action from all political factions to secure the nation’s future.
